While I think that most vegetables and fruits are beautiful, asparagus is one that I really don't like the looks of. It seems like a vaguely alien appendage, or a root vegetable that got its directions mixed up. It doesn't look like a "real" plant. I don't even like it's rubbery, clammy texture and cutting it is like what I imagine cutting a finger would be like. (And white asparagus is an abomination not to be tolerated raw or cooked.) But I persevere because I love the taste. Roasted with fresh parmesan or steamed with lemon butter, it's a magical transformation. This is watercolor in the Aquabee sketchbook.

OH - but how pretty you painted them!! LOVE your fence too!
I agree with you about asparagus! I like only the tips, and only when steamed very slightly. I still have memories of the old, stringy, overcooked, pale asparagus in cans....ick, ick. You did such a nice job with this painting and it's beautiful.
Very nice sktech/painting - great idea. This is a hard challenge and your idea is so creative.
You see I think asparagus is a really beautiful vegetable. Love the colours. Your painting of it is gorgeous too.
Gorgeous Watercolour!
LOVELY job...But they are such beautiful colors...with the pale green and touches of purple...I almost bought some yesterday and I DONT like them at all!!:>
This piece should be hanging proudly in a kitchen, to inspire cooking that's as wonderful as this painting is.
I respect your opinion, but I just can't see the ugly, there. I admit- I look forward to asparagus season every year :)
Isn't that funny. I love the look of asparagus particularly as it comes out of the ground. I loved watching the tip grow longer. Like you i love the taste of asparagus. Great drawing
Lots of love from Susan in Australia
Lovely colours! I think your choice for "ugly" is interesting ... food! Cheers! Mary Ellen
I'm so sure I left a comment on you asparagus and lemon, but I can't see it anywhere?!
Great sketch...you may not like it but you sure made them beautiful!

I guess you're right about asparagus looking odd, but it's not as odd as kohlrabi, and it tastes better! I lived on a farm as a kid, and we would always try to get out to the long driveway before my grandfather to cut the wild asparagus first. Mmmm. I like your painting, especially with the addition of the lemon. Very light and bright.
